Biography

Joachim Stange was born in Zittau in 1950. He did an apprenticeship as offset retoucher. Later on he worked as gardener, stage craftsman and orderly. After moving to Dresden he started engaging himself in Mail Art in the beginning of the 1980s. He has been “dealt” with in the Stasi (secret police of the former GDR) OV “Feind” (“enemy”) together with Birger Jesch, Jürgen Gottschalk, Martina and Steffen Giersch.
His Mail Art works were exhibited exemplarily in the Museum for Communication Berlin in 2002 (exhibition: “Ein offenes Geheimnis. Post- und Telefonkontrolle in der DDR”/”An open secret. Mail- and telephone controls in the GDR”).
